ClassroomSearch.com has no accounts. You never register, sign in, or give us your name or email address to search.

What happens to your searches

• Checking the search. Your search words are sent to a safety service to check that they’re right for school, and the titles and short descriptions of results are checked too so anything unsuitable can be hidden. It receives only the words, never anything about you.
• Finding results. The search words are sent to Brave Search to find results. Our server makes the request, so Brave doesn’t receive your IP address or anything else about you.
• Counting what students look for. We record the search words, whether it was a web or picture search, and whether it was allowed, with the time rounded to the hour. We store no name, IP address, device, browser, or cookie with it, so nobody can tell who searched what. We use this to see which topics students look for and to improve filtering. These records are deleted after 365 days.

Please don’t type private information, like your name, phone number, or home address, into the search box.

What our server sees when you visit

Because of how the internet works, any web server learns a few things about each visit. When your browser asks for a page, our server sees:

• your IP address (the internet address of your device or your school’s network)
• your web browser and device type (for example, “Chrome on a Chromebook”)
• the page you asked for and the time you asked for it

The server may keep this in its standard logs. We use it only to keep ClassroomSearch.com running and secure, for example to fix problems or stop abuse.

To stop automated programs from running up our costs, ClassroomSearch.com also counts how many searches come from each device and each network. Your device and IP address are turned into a scrambled code (a one-way hash) using a key that changes every day, so the codes can’t be turned back into your address or matched from one day to the next. Only the code and a count are stored, for up to 2 days, and they’re kept apart from what you searched. We do not use any of this to track you or to build a profile about you.

Pictures and links to other sites

Preview pictures and website icons are shown through our own server, so your browser never loads them from other websites. When you open a result, you leave ClassroomSearch.com, and that website’s own privacy policy applies. We tell your browser not to tell the website what you searched.

Cookies and browser storage

ClassroomSearch.com sets one cookie (cs_d) and keeps one random value in your browser’s storage. Together they make the scrambled device code used for the search counts above, so that every Chromebook in a classroom is counted separately. The cookie lasts 30 days. It holds no name and nothing you searched, and it isn’t used for tracking or advertising. The site’s administrator page uses a sign-in cookie, but only for the people who run the site.

We don’t sell or share your information

We do not sell, rent, or trade any information about you, and we don’t share it with anyone for advertising. The only time we would hand over information is if the law required it.

If you contact us

If you email us or contact us for help, we will have your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write to us. We use it only to answer you. We don’t connect your message to any searches, and we don’t add you to any mailing list.

Changes to this policy

If we change how ClassroomSearch.com handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
