About us
ClassroomSearch.com was made with love, by teachers, for students.
Made by teachers, with love
ClassroomSearch.com was started by a husband and wife team of two elementary school teachers. We have spent our careers in the classroom, and few things in this world bring us more joy than the moment a student’s face lights up because they’ve finally found the answer they were looking for.
Our students search the web every day, for school projects, for homework, and for all the wonderful questions curious minds ask. When we watched them use ordinary search engines, we too often saw a single search turn up pages, pictures, and ads that no child should have to see, or results so crowded with shopping and clutter that the best places to learn were hard to find. Our students deserved better than that. Every student does.
So, evening by evening and weekend by weekend, we built the search engine we wished they’d had: a safe, friendly place to look things up, with trustworthy sources near the top and Pip, our bookworm, cheering them on.
Our promise to you
- Free for everyone. Every web and picture search is free for every student, teacher, and family, today and always.
- Safe for school. Every search is checked before results appear, pictures and pages use the strictest SafeSearch setting, and when a search can’t be checked, no results are shown.
- Private by design. No account, no profile, and your searches are never linked to you. Our Privacy Policy explains it all in plain English.
- Made for learning. Schools, government agencies, museums, and other trusted sources are labeled and moved up, and every page and picture comes with a citation (MLA, APA or Chicago) students can copy.
How ClassroomSearch.com keeps searches safe
- Every search is checked first. Before any results are shown, the search words are checked to make sure they’re right for school. If they aren’t, students get friendly ideas for a better search instead.
- Results are filtered. Web and picture results always use the strictest SafeSearch setting, and results can be checked again before they appear.
- Pictures stay close to home. Preview pictures are shown from our own server, so a student’s browser never reaches out to unknown websites just to show a search.
- Help when it matters. If a search suggests a student is going through something hard, they see where to find help instead of results.
No filter is perfect. If something unsuitable ever gets through, please tell a teacher or trusted adult, and let us know so we can fix it.
Thoughtful about AI, and about our planet
Many families and teachers are asking careful questions about artificial intelligence right now: what it does with children’s information, how it changes the way they learn, and what it costs the planet. We think those are exactly the right questions to ask, and we want our answers to be clear.
- No AI for students. Students never chat with an AI or get answers written by one anywhere on ClassroomSearch.com. Every result comes from a real web search, and every discovery is the student’s own.
- Your searches never train AI. Nothing on ClassroomSearch.com, not your searches or the results you see, is ever used to train AI or large language models (LLMs).
- Powered by sunshine. ClassroomSearch.com runs on a server in a datacenter with a 400 kW solar array on its roof, and we buy carbon offsets to keep the environmental impact of running the site as small as we can.
We believe the best learning happens when students do the thinking themselves, with a caring teacher or family close by. That’s the kind of place we want ClassroomSearch.com to be.
From our classroom to yours
What began as a gift for our own students has grown far beyond our classroom walls. Today we share ClassroomSearch.com with students, teachers, and families everywhere, and it means the world to us every time a young researcher discovers something new.
ClassroomSearch.com has three sister sites, made with the same care for students: TypeWhirl, for learning to type, NumberKite, for practicing math facts, and FlipCardFox, for making and studying flashcards. You’ll find them at the bottom of every page.
To every teacher who makes ClassroomSearch.com the search engine for a class, every parent who helps with a research project at the kitchen table, and every student who bravely asks one more question: thank you. You are the reason we do this.
Help keep ClassroomSearch.com free
ClassroomSearch.com will always be free. Keeping it running costs more than most websites, though: every search is looked up and safety-checked by services we pay for, on top of web hosting, upkeep, and the many evenings and weekends we spend making it better.
If you want to support our mission, you can click the button below to donate to ClassroomSearch.com and help keep it running for every student who needs it. Any gift, large or small, is received with heartfelt gratitude.
Donations are coming soon. Thank you so much for thinking of us!
Can’t donate right now? That’s perfectly okay. Telling a teacher, a parent, or a friend about ClassroomSearch.com is a wonderful gift too.
